We invite you to learn about good practices and ideas for promoting active citizenship among young people through working with digital tools. The talk will examine the possibilities for activities in libraries in their role as so-called third spaces over the topic: Civic education in third spaces – involving young people in active citizenship processes through digital media. The speaker holding the keynote is Kathrin Hünemörder (founder of the German organization medialepfade.org).  Mediale pfade is a Berlin-based organisation focused on digital and civic media education. Katrin’s work emphasises knowledge management and organisational development within civil society, and she leads the development of digital learning formats that support an emancipatory approach to media, technology and democratic participation. Current projects include the prevention of online radicalisation of young people, strengthening media literacy through active media work and maker education as well as supporting organisations of civil society and non-formal education in bringing democratic content onto the platforms more effectively. Mediale pfade runs a media education center in the outskirts of Berlin and has had different cooperations with library associations in Germany about strengthening media literacy programs in libraries. Katrin has been active in civic education since the late 1990s. She co-founded the European Youth Press, and has held roles in training, project management and content work with international organisations, including a decade in Guatemala with a peace organisation. Katrin holds an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability and lives in Berlin.   The event is prepared by the Global Libraries – Bulgaria Foundation within the framework of the ALL DIGITAL WEEKS 2026 campaign and with the support of the EU ERASMUS + program of the EU.
