Workshop: Media Literacy and Artificial Intelligence
Workshop: Media Literacy and Artificial Intelligence: Building Critical Awareness and Digital Wellbeing This workshop offers a practical introduction to media literacy and the critical use of artificial intelligence, especially designed for trainers and facilitators working in the field of digital skills development. It aims to provide key insights into how these technologies function and how they influence the way we access information, form opinions and interact with the digital environment, as well as their impact on our sense of balance, overload and trust online. From this perspective, the workshop is closely linked to the concept of digital wellbeing, understood not only as managing screen time or technology use, but also as the ability to engage with digital information in a critical, conscious and responsible way. In a context where artificial intelligence and AI‑powered search tools are becoming increasingly integrated into everyday life, strengthening this critical perspective is essential to avoid misinformation, reduce information overload and anxiety, and maintain a balanced and healthy relationship with technology. During the session, participants will explore key topics such as what artificial intelligence is and how it is already embedded in many of the services we use daily, the potential risks of relying on AI as a source of information, and how these technologies can contribute to the spread of misleading or manipulated content. The workshop will also introduce strategies to recognise the limitations of AI systems, identify AI‑generated content and strengthen critical thinking and emotional self‑regulation when navigating online information. Ultimately, the workshop aims not only to improve participants’ understanding of these technologies, but also to help them develop practical tools and criteria to use them consciously, supporting a more informed, responsible and healthy engagement with the digital environment, where AI becomes a tool to enhance digital wellbeing rather than a source of stress or misinformation.
