Ethical AI in Local Governance
As part of the pan-European All Digital Weeks 2026 campaign (9-25 March), themed “Digital well-being for a competitive Europe” and emphasizing human-centric and responsible AI, ethical use of technology, inclusion, and democratic engagement in digital environments, ALDA’s Digital & Innovation Hub invites local authorities, municipal staff, civil society organizations (CSOs), and governance practitioners to an interactive 90-minute online policy workshop on March 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM CET. Titled “Ethical AI in Local Governance – Opportunities and Safeguards for Communities”, the session explores real-world AI deployments in municipalities—such as chatbots for citizen services, predictive risk assessments in social services, fraud detection in procurement, and AI-assisted urban planning—while addressing key democratic risks like bias, opacity, accountability diffusion, and vendor dependency. Through expert framing, breakout policy simulations where participants role-play as a “Municipal Ethics Council” to evaluate use cases, and plenary deliberation, attendees will gain practical tools to assess ethical implications, define boundaries for human oversight, ensure transparency and inclusion, and build safeguards that align with the EU AI Act and broader European debates on responsible digital transformation—ultimately equipping them to harness AI’s potential while preserving democratic legitimacy and community well-being. (Limited to 30 participants for interactive depth; registration required.
