Telecentre-Europe at the open door day of the European Commission

14 May, 2012

As a part of the European Institutions Open Day on May 12, the European Commission opened the doors of its headquarters at the Berlaymont building in Brussels, Belgium. Telecentre-Europe – represented by its Belgian member organization Interface3 – was invited to take part in the booth devoted to ICT & digital literacy organized by the Information Society and Media Directorate General(DG INFSO)

The special open doors day – just like every year for the past 20 years – attracted between 30.000 and 50.000 people, mainly families with children and young teenagers.

This year, DG INFSO sent out the message that ICT skills are good for employability in various sectors, in ICT but also beyond. Telecentre-Europe contributed to this message by presenting Skillage – offering the public to test his or her (digital) skills to get hired in today’s labourmarket – and the Employment Toolkit – a set of great online resources that help people to choose, prepare for, and successfully get the job of their dreams.

Telecentre-Europe’s member Interface3 organized the workshop “The PC seen from the inside” where participants were proposed to dismantle and rebuild a computer or to play with a card game of the various components of a computer. The workshop was very entertaining and helped to discover the hardware side of computing.
